Clifton began by addressing common doubts that diploma holders face鈥攕uch as concerns over academic preparedness or fitting into a traditionally A-Level-dominated applicant pool. Clifton reassured students that with determination, strategic planning, and a strong personal story, success is achievable. He also emphasised the significance of crafting a compelling personal statement. He encouraged students to reflect deeply on their motivations for pursuing medicine. Real-world experiences鈥攅specially patient interactions during their optometry training鈥攃an be powerful narratives when framed around empathy, resilience, and a genuine interest in patient care and interaction.
Clifton urged students not to underestimate their unique strengths as diploma holders, especially their early clinical exposure. His message was clear: with preparation, purpose, and passion, entering medical school through a diploma pathway isn鈥檛 just possible鈥攊t can actually be a valuable advantage.
