Course Objective

This course aims to re-skill graduates with Diplomas (and above) from different disciplines, equipping them with the knowledge and skills required to undertake new roles, such as Associate Network Engineer and Associate Infrastructure Engineer, in the Information Communication Technology (ICT) industries.

This course covers topics relevant to the setup and administration of both on-premises and cloud-based IT Network and Systems:

1. Linux Essentials:
  • Developing the skills to effectively administer enterprise Linux systems
  • Mastering basic Linux system administration tasks, including access and navigation of the command line, files management and access control, user and group accounts management
  • Manage and monitor Linux processes, network services and system daemons
  • Install and update software packages

2. Computer Communications:
  • Networking fundamentals and communication
  • Understanding the OSI 7-layers functionality and protocols
  • Develop skill in planning and setup of networks
  • Equipping participants with technical skills in testing of network connectivity

3. Computer Networking:
  • Routing concepts and how routers determine the best path using O91福利社F
  • Develop skill in configuring and troubleshooting of IP static routes, default routes and O91福利社F
  • Understanding network security concepts and common types of network attacks
  • Securing networks using access control list (ACL) and network address translational (NAT)
  • Troubleshoot network issues using systematic approaches and tools
  • Understand WLAN concepts, including technology, standards, and security mechanisms
  • Equipping participants with technical skills in configuring and troubleshooting WLAN, including VLAN interfaces, DHCP servers, and WPA2 Enterprise authentication

4. LAN Switching and Wide Area Network
  • Understand switching concepts, including frame forwarding and collision/broadcast domains
  • Develop skill in configuring and troubleshooting switches, routers and highly available and reliable networks
  • Understand LAN security concepts, including endpoint security and Layer 2 vulnerabilities
  • Implement switch security configurations, such as port security, DTP, native VLAN, DHCP snooping, ARP inspection, PortFast, and BPDU Guard
  • Understand network design principles, including data, voice, and video convergence
  • Understand WAN concepts, including traditional and modern connectivity options
  • Develop skills in implementing VPN using IPsec

5. Cloud Concepts and Core Services:
  • Overview of cloud concepts, including security, architecture, pricing, and support
  • Technical skills for building cloud-based projects aligned with industry requirements

The course is a one-year part-time programme. It consists of 2 Post Diploma Certificates (PDC) conducted over 2 semesters, 1 PDC per semester. The first PDC to start with is PDC1. The classes are conducted in the evening.
