Course Objective

The use of gas, such as Liquified Natural Gas (LNG) and other low-flashpoint fuels as ships’ fuel has increased in recent years, posing additional safety challenges. Hence, to manage such challenges, the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) adopted the International Code of Safety for Ships using Gases or other low-flashpoint Fuels (IGF Code) in 2015 and added related aspects to Standards of Training Certification and Watchkeeping (STCW) convention. Participating seafarers will learn complying with Regulation V/3 of the Convention - ‘Mandatory minimum requirements for the training and qualifications of masters, ratings and other personnel on ships subject to the IGF Code.’

This course is designed for seafarers responsible for designated safety duties associated with the care, use or in emergency response to the fuel on board ships subject to the IGF Code. Learning materials comply with Section A-V/3, paragraph 1 of the STCW Code.
